with Canadian Astronaut Steve MacLean

A WALK IN SPACE with Canadian Astronaut Steve MacLean
IMAGINE FLYING FROM VANCOUVER TO HALIFAX in less than 20 minutes —or witnessing 16 sunrises and sunsets in one 24-hour period. That’s what it’s like to hurtle through space at eight kilometres per second in a shuttle and circle the entire globe every 90 minutes.

Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Steve MacLean first travelled into space aboard space shuttle Columbia in October 1992. Fourteen years later, aboard space shuttle Atlantis, he became the second Canadian in history to perform a space walk. And in his official flying kit, MacLean packed a Royal Canadian Geographical Society pin to mark the importance of taking highresolution images of Canada's geological features fromspace and compiling them with satellite data to shed light on the impact of environmental problems, such as deforestation and global warming, on the land.

Please join The Royal Canadian Geographical Society in welcoming Steve MacLean as he describes the benefits of the new RADARSAT-2 satellite for environmental monitoring and resource management, and uses video and photography to illustrate his compelling stories of what it's like to orbit 400 kilometres above the Earth.
