This research expedition commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Arctic Expedition (CAE) of 1913 – 1918 which was the largest multi-disciplinary scientific Arctic expedition ever mounted. The CAE had a profound impact on the world of science and helped raise international attention to Canada’s North and its inhabitants. The research team will travel to Banks Island in the western Arctic to research and, for the first time, document several important CAE camps. The team will also search for evidence of the fate of Captain Peter Bernard, who was lost in the winter of 1916. At the time Captain Bernard was carrying mail bags that could provide detailed insights into the operations of this groundbreaking expedition.
